French Toast Platter

Upper East Side, New York $$ white
2.5

The french toast was fine. Not good, not bad, just fine. Standard white bread from a bag, standard custard mixture, standard griddle technique.

It achieved the bare minimum: cooked through, not burned, accompanied by syrup. The bread was soft throughout with minimal browning. The flavor was sweet without being cloying, bland without being offensive.

The 'platter' designation meant it came with two strips of bacon and some fruit. The bacon was crispy. The fruit was cold. These facts existed independent of the french toast and contributed nothing to its evaluation.

Fourteen dollars for something that inspired no emotion whatsoever. The restaurant was clean and the service was prompt.

Would return only if already in the neighborhood and hungry.
